This is my first blog posting. I have been a humor columnist for a couple of years and a smartass for most of my life and I've often been told that I should have a blog or a website. I've resisted blogging up to now because I've been holding out hope that the Internet was just a fad that, like disco and Bob Saget, would annoy me for a few years and then fade into obscurity.......I guess that isn't going to happen.
So, now I have a blog. I have very strong political opinions, but this is not a political blog. I been married for over 20 years, have 4 kids and 6 grandkids, but this is not family blog. I am El Guapo, but I am not Hispanic and this is not an ethnic blog.
I became El Guapo several years ago during a job negotiation with a major corporation. When it became clear that the company was not going to offer me any more money, I agreed to take the offered salary but insisted they give me a parking spot and refer to me only as El Guapo. Strangely, they accepted and since then I have been El Guapo.
What can you expect to find on find here? Rants and musings about whatever has my attention at the moment. I've written about everything from marriage to infedelity, defined all that's cool to all that is ridiculous and I still have more to say.
A few months ago I wrote a column a few months ago that ended with my philosophy on life. In it I wrote:
John Lennon wrote that, “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” which is pretty close to my own experience with life. Mr. Lennon is also attributed with writing the famous line, “I am the walrus, Coo Coo Cachoo….” so I remain skeptical that he knew the true meaning of life.
I think that life is like a big rollercoaster ride. Think about it; you start off by waiting in a long line (usually about nine months), then life starts off slow and safe but full of anticipation. All of a sudden life takes off at speeds and directions that are completely out of your control. There are slow climbs to unbelievable heights often followed by speedy descents, quick changes of direction with a loop thrown in from time to time to keep you off balance.

That’s my theory about the meaning of life; you buy your ticket, you take your ride and sometimes people throw up. That’s it. Life is a rollercoaster; that’s about as deep as I get.
In the end I guess we all get to decide what life means to us. Better yet, maybe there is no real meaning of life. Maybe Oscar Wilde said it best when he wrote, “Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about.” I’ll drink to that!

So that's what you can expect when El Guapo speaks. Hope to see you back soon.
